Farm composition

This is the composition for a new piece I am getting ready to start. I might still tweak this a little, but I am mostly satisfied with it. In this scene the sun had just set behind the trees next to the house, and the porch light of the house had just been turned on; there was something quiet and beautiful that begged to be painted.

Exhibition News and the Finished Kitchen

Ahhh. It feels good to be done with this one. I got really sick this week and had to power through the last few hours of the painting, but I needed to get it done for my solo exhibition next week. The exhibition is at Blue Spiral 1 Gallery in Ashville, NC and it opens on March 1st. The show is open until June 2nd, so you have lots of time to see it if you can't make it to the opening. Also, the work will be available to view on the galleries website: www.bluespiral1.com

New painting progress

I've been working diligently on the kitchen painting, but I think it is time to step back from it and work on something else. This is a painting I started back in September and put on the back-burner until now. It measures 28"x 35" and this is what it looks like after 4 or 5 sittings. The room was dark and my canvas was poorly lit, which explains some of its current value and color issues. I hope to remedy these things in the studio.

Kitchen, part 4

More progress! I've been working on some other paintings lately, so I put this one on the back-burner for a couple of weeks. Since the last post, I've started to add more objects that were in the kitchen and refine areas. The difficult thing with this painting is figuring out when I have pushed and pulled the objects enough to achieve the idea (or feeling) I want to get across. I am also having fun capturing the glow from the window.

Kitchen progress 3

Here is another progress shot of the kitchen. I finally covered the surface of the canvas with paint and the composition felt much more complete.

Russell

Ahhhh, the painting is finally done. Here is the finished work and two close-up shots. There is a small amount of glare in the close-ups, which explains the white speckles.

"Russell" progress

The painting of my brother is almost complete. In these progress images you can see how I began to work on this painting. I'll post the final painting soon.
