Sketchbookery

I figured I'd start things off with some of my sketchbook work.  Criticism is always welcome.

I really dig whats going on with the edges, texture, and subtle cool tone in the 5th page down (I think its a mini-fridge). Regardless of what it is, it makes for an interesting abstract composition and keeps me staring at it. Damn fine sir.

I will add a disclaimer to avoid having the backlash that happened on another blog that involved exceptional work. Someone may remark after reading this "These are sketchbook pages. Chill out dude." To that I say, your (Danny) sketchbooks (I have actually only seen one but assume they are all just as good) are so good that, as a whole, they make a piece of art that can hold up just as well as a finished painting. It makes a piece within itself. And Danny also said feedback was welcome.

I am drawn more to the fully inked pages (3rd and 5th) rather than the ones with just line. The fully inked pages have so many more interesting qualities that appear to be personal to you, where as the line drawings are just line drawings (very well drawn might I add). I remember being floored by your sketchbook at the Academy a couple summers ago. I believe it was filled with the same quality pages I am refering to now. I have always remembered that sketchbook...

That may be feedback more based on personal preference but hopefully it made some sense.

Good to see you posting man!

Geary - you will definitely see some paintings, but not until I get them photographed well. Those updates won't be as frequent as sketchbook pages.

Andrew - your disclaimer made me laugh. Don't worry though, I won't allow such n00bitry on my blog. Thanks for the crit, as well. I've been struggling with my drawings and paintings because I feel like they lack personal voice, so your comments are coming at a very good time.

Hey man! Good to see you blogging. Of course nice pages. Are you going to be around at all for the Academy?

hey danny. i agree about your fully inked pages. They have so much going on that I can keep coming back to them, while at the same time they're rendered selectively enough to keep any of the work from becoming distracting. it's good to see that you really are combining all of your influences and that careful selection of what appeals to you is definitely developing your personal voice. something i am in desperate need of. keep posting man.
